Clare Balding has revealed she almost did the unthinkable and hit Queen Elizabeth II with a sausage.
The presenter, 51, enjoyed several meetings with Her Majesty due to her grandfather, Peter Hastings-Bass, father Ian Balding and uncle, the 17th Earl of Huntingdon, were all trainers for the Queen’s horses.
However, one of those meetings could have disgraced the family name but would have made for a pretty funny story, tbh.
The queen died on September 8, surrounded by her family at Balmoral with her coffin now transported to Westminster ahead of her funeral on Monday September 19.
Sharing memories of the monarch on This Morning, Balding recalled accidentally flinging her meat at the queen.
‘I was trying to cut my sausage long ways and it’s very slippery when you hold it like that. And it could shoot and it did. It shot out towards the Queen,’ she told hosts Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield.
‘She raised an eyebrow.’

Thankfully, Liz was, in fact, highly amused.
‘But as we’ve been discussing, and as you know by now, when things go wrong that brought her amusement because everyone’s trying so hard to make it all go right, you’re so much likely to make a mistake,’ she said.
‘As a monarch, it helps that she has a sense of humour.’
Countless stars have shared wonderful memories with Her Majesty, while celebrities have paid their respects including Claire Foy who played Queen Elizabeth II for two seasons of The Crown.
Addressing the Queen’s death at the Toronto Film Festival, she told the BBC: ‘I think that she was an incredible monarch.’
‘She united people and she was a massive symbol of continuity and dignity and grace,’ she added.
‘My main feeling is just thinking about her as a mother and a grandmother and a great-grandmother, really, and I’m very honoured to have been a teeny-tiny, small part of her story.’
Buckingham Palace announced the queen’s death om a brief statement which read: ‘The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
‘The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.’
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
