*Contains spoilers for Happy Valley’s series finale.*
Happy Valley actor Mark Stanley claimed that his character on the successful BBC drama did not receive a warm welcome from the people.
The exciting Yorkshire-set programme concluded with detective Catherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire) and criminal Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) finally facing off when the critically-injured psychopath stormed into Catherine’s house.
In the penultimate episode, Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) burned himself on fire and subsequently died in a hospital offscreen in news relayed to Catherine by text message.
As the actors reminisced on their time on the famous show, actor Mark, who portrayed violent PE instructor Rob Hepworth, said on Monday’s This Morning that people avoided him while he was out and about.
‘I’ve had a lot of wide berths in the street with this one,’ he told hosts Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield – who branded Mark’s character a ‘nasty piece of work.’
‘People are just a little bit more hesitant,’ Mark added.
‘Not many people want to compliment you on such horrendous scenes. They keep the distance that they want to keep.’
Following the conclusion of the series, it was revealed that leading lady Sarah Lancashire had laboured behind the scenes to create a “special present” for the ensemble.
The 58-year-old actress collaborated with Hebden Bridge-based Yorkshire Soap Company to produce a candle commemorating the beloved show.
The BBC police drama Hebden Bridge is situated in the market town and filmed around the rest of the county.
