It’s been two decades since we last watched Survivor on television, but we now have confirmation that Joel Dommett will host the relaunch.
The BBC revealed last year that the reality TV series will return after 20 years, promising fans a test of intellect, brawn, and betrayal as competitors seek to outsmart, outplay, and outlast their opponents to be named the Ultimate Survivor.
Following rumours that actor, comedian, and broadcaster Joel, 37, might host, it has finally been confirmed that he will.
Joel was most recently seen hosting The Masked Singer UK, although he has also hosted The Masked Dancer and the National Television Awards in the last two years.
For those who are unfamiliar, or have just forgotten since it has been so long, the competition sees participants known as Castaways marooned in a distant place and denied of everyday luxuries.
They are forced to supply their own food, water, fire, and shelter while competing in challenges for rewards and immunity from elimination.
After being removed from the game one by one, the last one standing wins the title of Ultimate Survivor and the £100,000 cash prize.
Joel announced his participation on the event by saying he couldn’t believe he’d been invited.
‘A huge thank you to the BBC for trusting me with this,’ he said.

‘It’s such a hugely popular format all over the world and I’m super excited to help bring it to our sweet little country. Let the tribal councils begin!’
BBC Director of entertainment Kalpna Patel-Knight said having Joel on board was ‘wonderful’.
‘With his natural comedic charm we are thrilled that he is going to be on hand guiding, encouraging and challenging our contestants as they all try to be the sole survivor.’
Since its premiere in Sweden in 1997, 50 versions have been commissioned across the world.
Applications for the 2019 season are still being accepted, but you must act quickly since they conclude on March 6.
The competition is open to people aged over 18.
