A singing Piranha dressed in pyjamas? It has to be The Masked Singer.
When the hesitant persona went out onto the stage and belted forth the most incredible vocals, judges Rita Ora, Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, and Jonathan Ross were completely perplexed.
After performing Celine Dion’s It’s All Coming Back to Me Now for their Masked Singer debut, the panel acknowledged to being’speechless’ and even named Pirahna the ‘greatest vocalist’ on the show this year.
That doesn’t imply they were certain of their predictions.
The panel included Jamie Cullum and even Sting in the mix, but fans were left perplexed over the identity of the mysterious celebrity.
So, with our thinking caps on, let’s decipher all the hints and speculations around Piranha…
What clues are there for Piranha’s identity?
- ‘The motion (of being underwater) makes me a little sick’ – is it someone who travels a lot?
- A map highlighting Scotland, Ireland, and Wales.
- Brazilian Portuguese English dictionary, a sketchbook, a guidebook to fish in the Amazon.
- Someone who is very shy and scared, said they were ‘terrified’ of the panel heading them sing.
- ‘Piranhas are hungry, piranhas do bite, but I’d rather munch popcorn on this special night.’
Who could Piranha on The Masked Singer be?
Jamie Cullum
Rita Ora‘s first guess after hearing Piranha’s tremendous singing abilities was singer-songwriter and radio broadcaster Jamie Cullum.
‘I’m speechless. I think it’s one of the best vocalists we have on this whole show right now,’ she praised.
‘Just based off the vocal, it sounded a bit like Jamie Cullum to me.’
Jamie, 44, is a well-known English jazz-pop singer, composer, and radio host.
He is mostly a singer and pianist, but he also plays guitar and drums and has nine studio albums to his credit.
Sting
Because it’s The Masked Singer, anything can happen.
After paying great attention to Piranha’s dialect, Mo Gilligan made a wild guess.
Of course, candidates have been known to impersonate their voices in the past, but the jury detected hints of Americanisms, such as Piranha’s pronunciation of ‘water.’
‘It could be someone who is British but they spend a lot of time in America,’ Mo noted.
‘An English man in New York, piranhas bite you, they sting, it could be Sting.’
Sting, 72, certainly has the pipes, but does that make him Piranha?
Danny Jones
While the judges were unsure about their predictions, spectators at home believe McFly singer Danny Jones is underneath Piranha’s disguise.
Following their Masked Singer debut, viewers took to X and provided plenty of proof, claiming they wouldn’t be surprised if the mask fell off and Danny was beneath.
Many others thought it was ‘obvious,’ with hints pointing to McFly’s trip to America and the motion sickness being a reference to McFly’s Motion in the Ocean album.
Have the viewers solved the mystery?
The Masked Singer continues on Saturday at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
