Vanessa Feltz has insisted that if Matt Hancock ‘truly seeks forgiveness’ he should turn to his family rather than appearing on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.
During Friday’s I’m A Celebrity, Hancock became emotional as he admitted to wanting ‘forgiveness’ over mistakes he made in the pandemic.
He also discussed being caught snogging his aide Gina Coladangelo during lockdown, breaking the very guidance he set out which millions of people abided to under much more difficult circumstances than ‘being in love’.
Hancock was at the time living with his wife Martha and their three children.
However, some I’m A Celebrity viewers appear to have been won over by Hancock after he was selected to do six Bushtucker trials back-to-back and elected camp leader.
For Feltz though, his redemption shouldn’t start with I’m A Celebrity viewers, but with his family.
Writing in the Daily Express, the This Morning star urged viewers not to ‘confuse Hancock the politician with Hancock the performer’.
‘Winning over celeb pals and convincing viewers you’re not as repellent as you appeared, when on your best behaviour and aware there’s a lens pointing right at you, is no way to secure earthly redemption,” the 60-year-old wrote.
‘If you truly seek forgiveness seek it from your wife and children.
‘If you want rehabilitation, meet the families bereaved by Covid still seeking explanations for the decisions that robbed them of their loved ones.
‘Let no one be foolish enough to think a stint playing silly games on the small screen achieves any semblance of a worthwhile resurrection.’
For the first time since he entered the jungle, Hancock has been let off the hook and will not participate in tonight’s Bushtucker trial.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
