Below Deck Mediterranean star Captain Sandy Yawn has paid tribute to her brother, after his death at the age of 55.

The 56-year-old, who has been at the helm of Below Deck Med since season two, shared the sad news on Instagram, alongside a sweet childhood throwback.

‘Today I lost my brother @ 55 years young,’ she captioned the recent post. ’My heart is hurting for our family, his children and his wife.

‘I had the best time with him as a youngster, we rode stick horses together, played Simon Says, played with Tonka Toys, acted like we were Huckleberry Fin & Tom Sawyer and would ride our horses through the woods like we were explorers.

‘He was a gentle soul, so kind and generous. I’m so glad we reunited after many years of not seeing each other and I’m grateful that I got to experience his happiness and joy.’

‘I love you brother. God speed and RIP,’ she concluded the post, with the hashtags #love #brother #life #family.’

Captain Sandy didn’t share his cause of death or his name, but was supported by fans and her Below Deck co-stars over the news.

Malia White was among the first to offer her condolences, and replied: ‘Sorry to hear this Cap. Thinking of you & your family.’

‘I have no words that will ease your pain, I’m just sorry you have to go thru this [sic],’ Captain Lee Rosbach said.

‘I am so so sorry for your loss and families loss,’ a follower wrote. ‘I don’t know you personally but I greatly admire you Sandy.

‘My prayers and condolences and I will be praying comfort during this hard time. I’m so sorry again.’

‘Sorry for your loss Sandy. Thoughts with you & your family,’ an Instagram user added.

Captain Sandy came to fame on Below Deck spin-off, Below Deck Mediterranean, and appeared on the second season of the programme – replacing Captain Mark Howard.

She has been in the wheelhouse ever since, and will be back on our screens soon, as filming for the upcoming series of Below Deck Med kicked off at the end of last year.

While pictures on social media appeared to confirm that she will be returning to the fold for season seven, it is not clear who else will be in the cast.
