Sophie Gradon’s mum has posted an emotional tribute on what would have been her late daughter’s 35th birthday.

Deborah Gradon, who lost her daughter Sophie to suicide in 2018, shared a throwback picture of the Love Island star smiling away as she rode on a horse.

In honour of Sophie’s birthday, Deborah penned on Twitter: ‘You didn’t want to leave us You didn’t want to die You wanted the pain to stop.’

‘Happy celestial birthday Darling Sophie,’ she continued. ‘I love you and this is how I remember you. Always happy, always smiling.’

Responding to the post, one fan wrote: ‘Thinking of you @MommaDebs xxx Happy Heavenly Birthday Sophie xxx.’ (sic)

Sophie, who appeared in the 2016 series of the Love Island, tragically died in June 2018 aged just 32, with her body found by Northumbria Police at her parents’ home.

Her co-star Malin Anderson paid a heartfelt tribute to Sophie in June this year, writing: ‘Always right beside me. Then, now. Forever. I know you’re dancing with my girls. Love you Soph.’

The ‘girls’ Malin referred to in the post are her late mother who died in 2017 and her baby daughter Consy, who also passed away in 2019.

Last year, Deborah revealed that a butterfly appeared just as she was about to open a bottle to raise a glass to Sophie on her 34th birthday.

‘A butterfly appeared in the kitchen just as we were about to open a bottle of wine to wish #SophieGradon a happy birthday,’ her mother Debs tweeted on 26 October, a day after Sophie’s birthday.

‘She’s still with us, everywhere.’
