Viewers of the Netflix film You People have already criticised Jonah Hill and Lauren London’s apparent lack of chemistry – and it’s now been suggested that their kiss in the film wasn’t even genuine.
The star-studded romantic comedy follows unlikely pair Ezra (Hill) and Amira (London) as they fall in love and prepare to marry.
When their families meet, however, their wedding and future together are jeopardised, with Ezra’s Jewish parents Arnold and Shelley (David Duchovny and Julia Louis-Dreyfus) frequently arguing with Amira’s African-American Muslim parents Akbar and Fatima (Eddie Murphy and Nia Long).
The film, directed by Kenya Barris and co-written by Jonah, examines challenges surrounding interracial partnerships.
While You People has received a deluge of favourable reviews, the casting has been called into question, with many believing that Jonah and Lauren’s chemistry wasn’t quite suitable for the rom-com direction.
Now, comedian Andrew Schulz, who plays Ezra’s highly obnoxious cousin Avi, has revealed an intriguing detail about a certain sequence in the film.
The last scene of You People depicts Ezra and Amira kissing during their wedding as confetti falls around them. It’s the only time they kiss in the film, with the rest of the scenes seeing the pair cuddling or kissing on the cheek.
Andrew was there while filming that day and believes the kiss did not occur at all.
Speaking on the latest episode of his podcast Brilliant Idiots, which he hosts with Charlamagne, Andrew said: ‘I don’t know if I should share this here, but in the final scene of You People, they don’t even kiss. It’s CGI.
‘I’m there; I’m watching the wedding, and I see them going for the kiss, and their faces are like this far.’

He added: ‘[I thought] oh, they’re probably going to cut right there, but if you see the movie, you can see their faces come close, and then you can see their faces morph a little bit into a fake kiss.’
Andrew’s remarks have gone viral, with many people commenting on Twitter and using them to back up their case over the hiring of Jonah, 39, and Lauren, 38, as well as criticism of the writing.
Sharing their view, one Twitter user said: ‘Controversial opinion : But if Lauren didn’t feel comfortable enough to kiss Jonah Hill then why did she go forth with this movie like she should’ve just not sign on if she’s not ready to have “on screen” partners.’
Another weighed in: ‘Lauren London & Jonah Hill using CGI to kiss in You People makes me not even wanna watch that movie at all now.. That’s how you know him pulling her in a Uber is so far from believable lol.’
One viewer believes the CGI allegation is legitimate, saying, ‘Andrew Schulz ain’t lying tho lmfao… If you pay closely at the end, when Lauren London kisses Jonah Hill, their lips perform this strange CGI morphing together.
‘You can see they altered their lips to touch hehe.’
One person commented on the general chemistry between Jonah and Hill, saying, ‘Jonah Hill & Lauren London had no chemistry on screen too. Kisses were substituted with embraces in the film where kisses should have occurred. It was weird.’
‘Did Lauren or Jonah have a provision that they weren’t going to kiss?’ said another. Because the lack of kissing in this film is so apparent lol.’
Lauren has confessed that the relationship between her and Jonah’s characters is unlikely to occur in real life.
‘Why would these two individuals genuinely like one other?’ the ATL actress explained to People.
‘They’re from two very different worlds, and if you saw them, you’d never believe they’d meet or hang around, whatever the case may be. It was a discussion about connecting with people authentically and aiming for the soul connection.’
Some critics have also pointed out that Lauren kissed on-screen husband and wife Michael B Jordan in 2021’s Without Remorse.
The uproar surrounding You People came when director and writer Kenya addressed accusations that his films and TV series frequently portray interracial couples and mixed race characters.
