Former Gogglebox star Tom Malone Jr has looked back at his time on the Channel 4 programme, revealing what it’s really like for families taking part.
The reality star said that producers of the show provide families with takeaways – while also prohibiting the contributors from drinking alcohol.
Tom, who left the show in February, revealed there was a booze ban on the programme which he observed during the six years he was on the programme.
Speaking to The Sun, he added: ‘We weren’t allowed to order or drink alcohol, because I don’t think the show would work if we were all there slurring our words. It would be a different type of show!’
Discussing the food the producers offered, Tom said: ‘They just order us a takeaway. We’d just get to chose which takeaway we want and they will order it in.
‘That was probably the best thing about Gogglebox for me – the amount of takeaways. I loved it.’
He added: ‘Obviously if you were like I want caviar and this and that brought to my door then they would probably say it’s a bit much.’
‘But we are a very simple family, so it was KFC and Nando’s. It was good, I was living the dream.’
Tom Jr isn’t the only former star who has spoken about life behind the scenes on Gogglebox recently.
It comes after Gogglebox legend Sandra Martin made some surprising claims about her time on the programme, saying that the series banned her from appearing on other shows.
Sandra appeared on the first ever episode of the series alongside friend Sandi Bogle and the pair quickly became fan favourites.
Writing on Twitter, Sandra said that contributors to the Channel 4 series are unable to take part in other series while appearing on Gogglebox
While it looks like Sandra won’t be returning to Gogglebox any time soon, former Gogglebox star Amy Tapper has suggested the much-loved Tapper family could return to the Channel 4 show as it nears its 10th anniversary.
Gogglebox airs Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
