Love Island’s Wes Nelson was overcome with emotion on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins on Sunday night after being punished for slamming his water bottle on the ground.
The 22-year-old reality star grew increasingly irate during a challenge and vented his anger by throwing the piece of equipment. As a result, directing staff Jason Fox ordered Wes to give him 20 burpees.
‘F*cking get on with it now,’ Jason barked. ‘You’re starting to f*cking wind me up now.’
In subsequent scenes, Wes was seen wiping tears from his eyes when asked him what was up.
‘What’s wrong number nine?’ Mark ‘Billy’ Billingham probed. ‘I’m asking, what p*ssed you off? Get it off your chest.’
Taking a deep breath, a frustrated Wes responded: ‘I put the bottle down so I could get the boat over and then I’m getting punished just for putting the bottle on the floor.
‘I don’t know how I can stop making stupid mistakes when I felt like I wasn’t making a mistake.’
Billy fired back: ‘Let it go over your head, you don’t need to get upset about it.’
Wes was again reduced to tears when talking to his parents via video call.
‘These things are sent to test you,’ his dad said. ‘Ge through it. No white flag.’
Elsewhere on last night’s Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, Olympic rower James Cracknell opened up about how his brain injury had ‘chipped away’ at his confidence, inspiring him to challenge himself with the show.
‘For me, one of the real reasons for coming here was I feel over the past few years I’ve lost a bit of confidence and I probably backed off doing the physical things better than I could have done, and I probably wasn’t being true to myself – and that has started to get better,’ he said.
‘The assumption with having had a serious brain injury is that that then defines the rest of my life – and you won’t be able to do that, you won’t be able to do that…’
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins airs Sundays at 9pm on Channel 4.
