Peaky Blinders may return to Birmingham, but this time fans may find themselves at the centre of a crime, with plans for a theme park on the horizon.
The period crime drama follows the adventures of the Peaky Blinders crime group in the immediate aftermath of World War I for six seasons between 2013 and 2022.
Cillian Murphy, who played Tommy Shelby, headed the ensemble cast, which also included the late Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, and Sophie Rundle, as well as Paddy Considine, Adrien Brody, Aidan Gillen, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Sam Claflin.
The series now appears to be the basis for a tourism destination in its hometown.
With six seasons of the programme and a movie on the horizon, officials at the Visit Birmingham tourist organisation are rumoured to be planning a theme park to capitalise on the show’s success.
‘This may sound like a ridiculous concept, but Peaky Blinders was such a hit and it’s reaped big dividends for Britain,’ according to a TV source.
‘Although the show was ultra- violent, it also showcased our industrial past, not to mention a whole new wave of fashion and haircuts.
‘So it’s actually a no-brainer for tourism chiefs keen to get the maximum draw and make the most of a TV show that was an international hit,’ they said to The Sun.
It wouldn’t be the first time the show turned down a tourist attraction, after the release of live theatrical experience The Rise.
The 360-degree theatrical play, which is being presented in Camden, is based in the universe of Peaky Blinders and chronicles ‘the rise in riches of Tommy Shelby and his family as the unfolding narrative and live actors bring the audience right at the heart of the Shelby Company’.
Last year, creator Steven Knight stated that the future picture, which is set to be released within the next several years, would include both fan favourites and fresh faces.
He earlier stated that he would ‘insert Vicky McClure in the film if she’ll do it’.
Peaky Blinders is available to stream on BBC iPlayer and Netflix.
