This Morning welcomed Scott Fisher, who is running 27 marathons in aid of his wife Megan, and emotional and impressed viewers soon raised over £100,000 for the cause.
Scott appeared on the show ahead of being sent on his fifth marathon from Gillingham in Kent.
He offered up a moving story as to why he was doing the mega challenge, inspired by Eddie Izzard.
His wife Megan, who has Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) has to take 27 pills every day in order to stay alive, and he explained she had recently taken a turn for the worst.
MCAS is a condition in which the mast cells in your body release too much of a substance that causes allergy symptoms.
The condition means Megan suffers allergic reactions from even the most basic of things, such as the clothes she wears.
But Scott’s enthusiasm shone through and quickly connected with viewers.
It didn’t take long for those watching at home to put their full support behind him, and fans soon flooded his page with donations, meaning that within an hour he had raised £100,000.
Rochelle Humes and Vernon Kay offered updates throughout after the show itself had donated £1,000 to the cause.
Vernon said: ‘He started off talking to us and he’d raised £7,000.
‘The Just Giving page details are on the screen, This Morning viewers you are absolutely fantastic,’ he remarked, with Scott having doubled his target at this point.
The host added: ‘She takes 27 pills to keep her alive, that’s why Scott got really emotional, you guys are absolutely awesome!’
Fans of the show quickly expressed their support on social media too, taking to Twitter after the emotional segment.
One wrote: ‘The British public can be marvellous can’t they? Over £100,000 raised for this great guy. Bravo! #ThisMorning.’
‘Scott Fisher smashing his donation target within 5 minutes has made my day. What a geez, good luck to you and your wife mate #ThisMorning,’ said another.
‘The viewers understood the assignment for Scott Fisher Go Fund, how amazing #ThisMorning,’ added a viewer.
The hosts brought Scott back onto the show later on to give him the wonderful news, to which he said of the total raised: ‘That’s amazing, that’s my mortgage!’
‘You said the aim was to get to 27, what do you say about that?’ Vernon quizzed.
He replied: ‘I mean, what do you say? It makes those sleepless nights in hospital and going to work, being the mum the dad and the carer, going to London for four hour trips, it makes it all worth it.
‘For all those carers that are out there doing that, look at what I’ve done. Just keep going, I know how hard it is.
‘It’s just blown my mind, look at the power of the people,’ he added.
Vernon went on to joke Scott would have to start again after stopping for the update to which he said he absolutely wouldn’t be.
‘I paused the timer so I could have a quick chat with you!’ Scott said.
‘Thank you so much, to all the camera guys… I’m enduring a 10th of the pain my wife does.’
At the time of writing, the total on Scott’s Just Giving page stands at over £125,000 – which you can donate to here.
