Former Great British Bake Off contestant Ruby Bhogal has had her glamourous summer plans crushed after contracting Covid.

In an Instagram post shared on Wednesday, the 2018 finalist showed what her summer plans were with a picture of herself eating croissants on a boat while dipping her feet in the water.

But in the next picture, she revealed what her summer was really looking like, with a snap of herself napping on the sofa wearing a grey jumper and with a hot water bottle on her neck.

‘How I thought my summer was gonna look like VS How my summer has actually looked like,’ she wrote.

‘Have been a little awol on here (more so than normal) after coming down with that pesky little bugger Covid – which has left me absolutely wiped for the best part of 2 weeks,’ went on to explain Ruby.

As for how she has been spending her time stuck at home she said: ‘Lots of Netflix (I swear I’ve watched everything on there at least twice now), lots of haribo (tangtastics and nothing less) and lots of feeling sorry for myself has gotten me through the worst of it.’

But you can’t get the baker out of Ruby as even while sick, she still missed working on her recipes: ‘I think this is the longest I’ve not been in the kitchen since pre bake off so it’s been a shock to the system in all ways.

‘I CANNOT wait to get back to baking, painting cakes and sharing lots of recipes w you guys – I’m hoping by next week I’ll be able to stand up for longer than 15 minutes without feeling like I’ve just ran a marathon.’

Ruby also explained that her Covid symptoms did not present as usual cough and high temperature, ‘but instead came in thick with a migraine which I have only just shifted in the past few days.

‘I’ve still got a few probs with lack of smell and taste, so if anyone had anything which worked for them on that front – I’d be hugely grateful.

She signed off her message encouraging people to keep themselves and others safe. ‘Covid is still very much a bitch,’ she added.

Many of the Bake Off friends and colleagues flooded her comments to wish her well, with presenter Noel Fielding writing: ‘Get well soon Ruby xx’

2020 contestants Sura and Hermine shared their well wishes, with the former writing: ‘I hope you get better soon sweetheart! Sending you so much love xxx’ and the latter commenting: ‘Ooooh Ruby! How awful is that. I hope you get better very soon.’
