Ben Shephard heaped praise on Kate Garraway amid husband Derek Draper’s coma battle.
The I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here star’s partner was rushed to hospital in March with coronavirus symptoms, and he has remained getting treatment ever since.
Ben lifted the lid on how she’s doing during an appearance on Dave Berry’s Dadpod podcast, he explained that she had kept her positivity throughout the ordeal.
‘Sadly, at the moment, there is a lot of frustration, despair, bad news and continuing trauma for all of us and we do worry that the damage that we are doing to young people…,’ the 45-year-old told the host, discussing life on Good Morning Britain.
‘But, I think the thing that gets you through those trickier days when you’re dealing with really tough stories or tough subject matter is coming home and seeing them (his kids) and seeing the optimism and the hope and the need to keep striving for things to improve for them.
‘To find a base whereby they can build on their life in a creative and constructive way that will make a difference, hopefully.
‘Occasionally, it’s been tough, it’s been really tough for family reasons and for personal reasons.’
‘Going through Covid, one of my very good colleagues Kate has been very seriously affected in her family and Billy and Darcy are similar ages to Sam and Jack and they’re good friends,’ he continued.
‘The support and the outpouring of love and generosity of spirit from the British public has been incredible.
‘When you see how she’s approached it, when you see the positivity which she’s taking it, and when I see the boys and how they’re attacking life, and they’re not letting it get in the way of what they’re going through.
‘It makes me very proud and it also, sort of, redoubles your effort to make sure that, you know, we can keep the stories current and tangible, that hopefully we can present it in a way that can make some change.’
Derek was rushed to hospital with coronavirus at the end of March, and was moved to intensive care soon after.
While he is now Covid-free, the illness wreaked havoc on his body – and he is still in hospital to this day.
Kate has been caring for him, while also looking after their two children, William and Darcey.
The family are set to face the festive period without him, but the ITV star explained that this year will be even more special than their previous holidays.
‘There seems to be a general feeling this year that we need Christmas and New Year more than ever,’ she told Woman & Home magazine.
‘We need things to feel like they’re moving forward because it’s been such a strange and tough year.
‘All the things we love about Christmas – family, loved ones, indulgence and getting together – having been restricted for so long, it makes it even more precious this year.’Credit: Original article published here.
