Charlotte Church has opened up about her latest birth, revealing plans to have her baby in an outdoor ‘birth palace’ didn’t quite go to plan.
The singer, 35, who gave birth to her third child last year, had planned to welcome the baby into the world surrounded by nature – but had her on the bathroom floor instead.
Speaking on Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe’s Parenting Hell podcast, Charlotte revealed: ‘I did love birth, but my third birth came and b***h-slapped me in the face.’
The opera star has daughter Ruby Meghan, 14, and son Dexter Lloyd, 12, from her ex Gavin Henson, and welcomed baby daughter Frida Simone with her husband Johnny Powell last year.
Revealing how different her third birth was, Charlotte explained: ‘I had become a nature lover, tree hugger, quite deep hippy in the interim of having my first two and little baby Frida.
‘So I set this birth palace outside basically among the trees. I dried flowers — it was so involved. It looked like a Baz Luhrmann set. I had candles everywhere.
‘I laboured under there overnight, which was beautiful, but then I had her screaming on the bathroom floor. Mother Nature came and went, “Sit down, silly lady.”’
The turning point came when the golf course next to her garden started to fill up with players, forcing her to relocate indoors.
She explained: ‘It started drizzling at about 7am and I live next to a golf course, and I could really hear the golfers. As my noise started to up, I thought, “This is not going to work.”’
Charlotte secretly gave birth in August 2020, revealing the news in February 2021 when little Frida was six months old.
During an appearance on Sink The Pink Pop Tart podcast, Charlotte announced: ‘I would love to introduce you to my little baby. Covid realness honey.’
