Daisy May Cooper apologises after being criticised for pro-keto diet post: ‘I should know better’

Daisy May Cooper has apologised after receiving criticism for a keto diet post she had shared on social media.

The This Country star had previously told fans she was aiming to get in shape for 2021, and had recently revealed she was on a keto diet which had been recommended by her father Paul and friend Sarah.

She uploaded a before-and-after shot to Instagram to show her progress, with both pictures seeing her stand in front of a mirror in her pyjamas.

‘Anyone else doing keto?’ she captioned the post. ‘My mate Sarah and my da suggested I give it a try and I’m shocked at how quickly weight is dropping off.

‘Forgive the s***e mirrors and grey bra and the fact I’m not standing in the same position so I look like a midget on the right… And don’t panic… I’m not going to be promoting any s*** weight loss dvds or products.’

She added: ‘Pic taken on the right taken 1st of Jan. Be grateful for any keto tips, only diet I’ve ever really enjoyed.’

A keto diet usually encourages people to eat protein and fat rather than any carbohydrates. The reduction of carbs puts one’s body into a state known as ‘ketosis’. However, there have been suggestions that a long-term keto diet, which is restrictive in nature, may cause health issues for some.

Daisy’s post was met with some backlash from fans, later prompting her to remove it from her Instagram page.

The 34-year-old has since taken to her Instagram Stories to apologise, admitting she ‘should know better’.

Daisy first shared a screenshot of a post she had been tagged in by a follower, which read: ‘She’s deleted her post but I can’t unsee the fact that it had already been up 24 hours, amassed 82,000 likes (including two mutuals!?) and almost 2,5000 comments, none of which called this out.

‘@daisymaycooper thank you for taking it down, next step would be to address your mistake publicly in order to raise awareness among your large fan base that seemingly don’t find issue with this s***.’

In response, Daisy wrote: ‘I should know better and I’m extremely sorry.

‘Thankyou so much to everyone who called me out on it. Love you all. [sic]’

The actress had previously shared a hilarious video on January diets, which basically summed up how we all felt after the Christmas period.

She said to the camera: ‘That’s it, I’ve just had enough of being fat, I’m just going to start my diet Monday.’

The camera then cuts to Daisy in front of a McDonald’s meal as she adds: ‘I’m just going to have this McDonald’s and then I’m back on it, then I am absolutely going to lose weight.’

Finding another excuse not to add to the general misery of January by restricting all the delicious food, she then said: ‘Yeah I can’t start my diet until I’ve taken before pictures so I can see what I look like after.

‘So then I’ll start my diet. I’ll f*****g start my diet.’
