Dustin Diamond completes first round of chemotherapy after stage four cancer diagnosis

Dustin Diamond has completed his first round of chemotherapy treatment after being diagnosed with stage four cancer.

The actor, 44, who is best known for playing Screech on Saved By The Bell, was hospitalised earlier this month, with his rep later confirming his cancer diagnosis.

It’s now been reported that Dustin has undergone his first round of chemotherapy to ‘treat stage four small-cell carcinoma’ – a type of advanced cancer that is commonly found within the lung.

TMZ reports that Dustin’s cancer started elsewhere in his body, but metastasised in his lungs and following his first round of treatment, his second round of chemotherapy is being scheduled in.

Dustin is set to begin physical therapy too and is ‘keeping a positive outlook’ while undergoing treatment.

A rep for the star confirmed to Metro.co.uk: ‘Dustin has completed his first round of Chemo and his next round is being scheduled. He will also begin his physical therapy soon.’

‘Dustin is looking forward to spending more time with his girlfriend, playing his bass guitar/video games, as well as making videos for his fans on social media,’ they added.

‘We just started receiving fan mail for Dustin and we are forwarding the letters/cards to him to read in the hospital.’

The update comes after Dustin’s rep previously confirmed: ‘Yes it is true that Dustin has cancer, but he is still undergoing tests and we won’t know the true severity until these tests are complete.’

They added: ‘Once we have our facts straight, Dustin will release a statement personally about what is happening.’

The diagnosis came after Dustin was rushed to hospital, after experiencing pain all over his body. There were fears that he could have cancer – given his family’s medical history – and it was confirmed Dustin was also suffering from shingles.

Dustin shot to fame on teen sitcom Saved By The Bell, which he starred on for 13 years. He was noticeably absent from the show’s reboot that aired last year, after falling out with the cast over publishing his tell-all book on the series Behind The Bell.

In 2013, Dustin appeared on Celebrity Big Brother UK – he was later evicted from the house on Day 16, while reality star Charlotte Crosby went on to win the series.
