Jeremy Clarkson’s daughter Emily has shared an incredibly candid, and oh-so-important, message about mental health, peeling back the curtain on her social media and insisting ‘it’s okay not to be okay all the time’.
Hear that? It’s the sound of us breathing in that fresh air.
The 26-year-old journalist and author is fast becoming one of our favourite people on Instagram, due to her hilarious and oh-so-relatable posts, however the daughter of the Grand Tour host has shown us another side to her profile this week.
Sharing a shot of herself crying during a ‘moment’, teamed with a bright photo of her beaming, the writer juxtaposed two sides of her emotions – which we’re sure many can relate to.
Wanting to spread a very needed message, she wrote: ‘It’s okay not to be okay all of the time. It’s okay to cry. To struggle. To be tired and overwhelmed and anxious.
‘You are not alone or unusual or failing or falling behind. We all feel like sh*t sometimes. We all lose it. We just don’t show you that much because it’s not #cute or whatever.
‘So here’s what I sent to my sister a few days ago during ~a moment~ to remind you that it’s okay to feel like a bag of dicks, it’s okay to let it all out and to be more than one thing; to have moods and to fluctuate.
‘To feel happy and sad, loved and lonely, excited and exhausted. It’s okay to feel all the things. And it’s okay to feel them in any way that you want. Now more than ever.
‘Hold on ❤️ smile when you can xxxx.’
Fans rallied around Emily as they thanked her for sharing the message.
One mused: ‘Love this ❤️ so important to remind that everything is okay? thanks for posting,’ as another chimed in with a supportive: ‘This is such a reassuring thing to read. You’re a hero.’
It didn’t take long for Emily to then share with us a pretty solid mantra in which to inspire, as she posted a lengthy list of lovely things we can do that is a bone fide mood-lifter.
Alongside a ruddy spirited shot on Instagram, she mused: ‘Life’s short. Be kind. Smile. Eat biscuits. Love hard. Try hard. Laugh hard. Be there for your friends. And let them be there for you.’
Oh, she’s just getting started: ‘Sit. Sweat. Rest. Breathe. Count your blessings. Let go of what you can’t control. Fight for the things that you want. Forgive whenever you can. Drink water. Stretch. Moisturise. Stroke a dog. Drop your ego. Say no. Say yes. Say sorry. Read a book. Watch a show. Walk. Help. Yourself. And everyone else too. Lean in. To all of it. Sleep. Doze. Jump. Cry. Shriek. Hug. Text your mum. Cook something new. Smell a rose.’
And to finish off her TedTalk: ‘Stop putting that thing off. Better a bruised ego than a missed opportunity. So do it now. Make the time. Be you. Know how special that is.’
Mate, what a message. Can we bottle this?
While Stacey Solomon might be the queen of ‘tap to tidy’ content, Emily – who has amassed well over 120k followers – is our royal go-to for all things body positivity, a reminder when it comes to feeling ourselves and not taking life too seriously and just generally all round hilarious posts that brighten up our day.
