It’s almost that time of year where the John Lewis Christmas advert warms our hearts and it’s reported that Jess Glynne could be doing the honours of providing the soundtrack.

Some of pop’s biggest names from Lily Allen to Sir Elton John have had the pleasure of recording a song for the brand’s iconic festive advert, and sources say John Lewis bosses are close to whittling down this year’s shortlist with Hold My Hand singer Jess in the running.

An insider told The Sun: ‘The John Lewis Christmas ad marks the beginning of the festive season for a lot of people and there is a lot of pressure for it to be a success.

‘The creative team behind it reckon Jess would be a great choice because she has such a distinctive voice.’

However, it’s still fairly up in the air as the source added: ‘But other artists have also recorded for it and a final decision is expected to be made in the next fortnight.

‘Because it is such an important ad, it will all come down to how the song fits with the visuals when everything else is done.’

It’s not known how the coronavirus pandemic and other sensitive events of the year will impact the direction of John Lewis’ advert this year.

Lily Allen recorded one of the most successful John Lewis songs in 2013 with her stunning cover of Keane’s hit Somewhere Only We Know, while Sir Elton delivered a rendition of his classic Your Song in 2018.

Jess, 31, would certainly be a great fit for the role as she boasts seven UK number one singles, including Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself, Rather Be and I’ll Be There.

The pop star has been fairly quiet on the music front this year, only featuring on the ensemble charity song Times Like These and the track Lie For You with Davido, Snakehips and A Boogie wit da Hoodie.

Her last album, Always In Between, was released in 2018 and, of course, reached number one in the UK.

Last year, Jess came under fire for cancelling her Isle of Wight performance last-minute due to ‘exhaustion’. The following week, she pulled out of TRNSMT festival due to a vocal haemorrhage but also admitted to partying with the Spice Girls after their tour show.
