Joe Lycett’s anxiety nearly made him vomit on Lorraine Kelly live on air

Joe says his stage fright has turned to panic attacks more recently and he suffered one before going on Lorraine’s show (Picture: Ken McKay/ITV/)

Joe Lycett has opened up about the crippling on-stage nerves he suffers, admitting he once almost threw up over Lorraine Kelly.

The comedian, 33, has battle with stage fright for a number of years but says they have more recently turned into panic attacks.

One such incident led him to almost spewing all over poor Lorraine during an appearance on her ITV morning show.

Joe explained to the Guardian: ‘I’ve had stage fright my entire career, but I enjoy nerves. They’re a source of potential energy. But in recent years, I’ve also been having anxiety attacks.

‘The last one was on Lorraine Kelly’s show. My throat closed up and I felt like I was going to vomit.

‘Ten seconds before we went on air, I convinced myself, “I’m going to be sick on live telly. Lorraine’s going to get a faceful of Bran Flakes.” But when we went live, I suddenly became totally serene.’

Joe recently hit the headlines when he stormed off Steph’s Packed Lunch as part of a stunt in a bid to get drink brand Yop! to stop using white PET plastic for its packaging.

After chatting to host Steph McGovern about how the plastic is much harder to recycle and the impact it has on the environment, Steph pointed out that he was sitting next to one of the bottles in an Instagram picture.

Funnyman Joe then removed his microphone and stormed off and refused to return before the show went to an advertisement break.

The stunt successfully encouraged Yop! to change the plastic they use for their bottles but Joe admits he may have taken things too far as his family contacted him to see if he was alright after watching it unfold on their screens.

On his show Joe Lycett’s Got Your Back earlier this month, he said: ‘I had friends and family get in touch, and it was actually quite scary. I thought, “Did I take things too far?”’
