Lady Gaga calls for President Donald Trump to be impeached following Capitol riots

Lady Gaga has called for the impeachment of Donald Trump, following the riots in the Capitol building after supporters of the incumbent Commander-In-Chief attempted to disrupt the process of Joe Biden being approved as president.

It comes as many other implore Vice-President Mike Pence to use the 25th amendment, which would see Pence take control if the president is deemed ‘unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office’.

The 34-year-old singer explained to her followers that it wouldn’t be appropriate to use the 25th amendment, because it wouldn’t stop Trump from running for office again in the future, whereas impeachment could.

Articles of impeachment have already been drawn up to remove Trump from office, as leading American politicians branded him a ‘danger’ to national security, with President-elect Biden due to be inaugurated in less than two weeks, on Wednesday, January 20.

The articles say the outgoing president should be impeached for ‘high crimes and misdemeanours’ after he was widely blamed for inciting violence on Wednesday, when his supporters stormed Congress in unprecedented scenes that left four people dead and shocked the world.

Echoing those sentiments, Gaga tweeted: ‘I hope we focus to impeach Trump so Congress has the constitutional authority to possibly disqualify him from future election — the #25thAmendment doesn’t disqualify him.’

She continued: ‘He incited domestic terror—how much more violence needs to happen? This is terrorism.’

Mr Trump previously faced impeachment proceedings in December 2019, but despite approval from the House of Representatives, the Republican-controlled Senate acquitted him.

Gaga previously hit back after she was criticised by Trump for supporting his opposition Biden at a rally in Pennsylvania last year.

After Trump called the singer ‘liberal Hollywood elite’ and called Biden ‘desperate’ for enlisting her help, the superstar and Oscar winner replied on Twitter: ‘…@realDonaldTrump SO HAPPY IM GLAD TO BE LIVING RENT FREE in your HEAD. #BidenHarris’.

During the riots, Mr Trump’s Twitter account was suspended after he posted a video asking his supporters to stand down, but also telling them he ‘loved’ them and that they were ‘special’, as well as repeating his unfounded claims the election had been ‘stolen’ from him.

He has been warned he faces a permanent ban if he continues to flout rules, and Facebook has announced he will no longer have an active account on their platform until at least his term is up.

Celebrities such as Cardi B, Mark Ruffalo, Josh Gad, and Piers Morgan slammed the pro-Trump protestors for storming the US Capitol Building.

As the scenes played out live, Avengers star Mark Ruffalo tweeted: ‘This is a coup attempt on behalf of Trump and his complicit allies. This is All on Trump and his administration. The cowards in the GOP must be held accountable. #CoupAttempt’

He continued: ‘Imagine if this was our side. There would be rivers of our blood in the streets and not a single one of us would be armed. This has been allowed. #CoupAttempt.’

Rapper Cardi B tweeted: ‘Where the National guards ?’ before adding: ‘The irony is pretty funny………weren’t people just wild animals in the summer for demanding justice and now?……Let me just watch.’
