Mariah Carey ‘so proud’ as All I Want For Christmas Is You finally reaches number one in the UK

Mariah Carey was feeling pretty pleased with herself after hearing that her hit festive track All I Want For Christmas Is You has finally got the recognition it deserves.

When you think of Christmas, one of the first songs that comes into your head is Mariah’s track and those first few chimes, but while it might be a firm favourite all over, it’s never actually bagged the number one spot.

The track was first released in 1994 and over two decades later, Mariah’s song has finally reached number one in the official UK music chart.

26 years later and All I Want For Christmas Is You is sitting pretty at the top spot, with Mariah telling fans she is ‘so proud’ to hear it’s finally got there.

Clutching onto her number one trophy, Mariah shared a video with fans, while dressed in her Christmas onesie, and said she is ‘full of gratitude’ that the first ever Christmas track she’s penned is still loved all these years later.

The We Belong Together hit-maker, 50, said: ‘So I’m sitting here with this and it is a trophy for All I Want For Christmas Is You being number one in the UK chart for the very first time, thanks to you.

‘I just wanted to take a minute, I’m here in my Christmas onesie hanging out and I said I just can’t not thank the fans and let them know that I know what a huge deal this is. We need to be festive and celebrate together because you made this happen.’

Mariah continued: ‘I wrote this little song – my first Christmas song I ever wrote – and I’m just so proud and thankful and full of gratitude that it’s finally number one in the UK on the main charts, the official chart.

‘I can’t thank you enough, have the merriest Christmas ever, I love you. L for L. All I want for Christmas, well, it pretty much says it all.’

It comes as Mariah dropped a new festive tune for fans, for which she joined forces with fellow powerhouse singers Jennifer Hudson and Ariana Grande.

Mariah aka the Queen of Christmas had teased that something exciting was on the way, while on set of the music video for her new collaboration Oh Santa, last month.

The trio performed the song for Mariah’s Christmas special, which aired on Apple+ TV and saw the stars of Gogglebox praising Mariah for ‘saving 2020’ with her holidays-inspired show.

Re-tweeting a clip from the Channel 4 reality series, where friends Abbie and Georgia were seen fan-girling over her, Mariah commented: ‘Love this!’
