Matthew McConaughey has revealed the reason why he never dated his co-stars before finding love with his wife Camila Alves.
The actor starred in his fair share of rom-coms over the years, and fans couldn’t get enough of his chemistry with some of Hollywood’s most popular leading ladies.
However, the Fool’s Gold star also made sure things stayed professional with his female co-stars in order to keep the performances realistic.
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show, McConaughey shared why none of his movie pairings ever turned romantic.
He began: ‘If you look at the history of films, when you see a couple — say they did a movie together and then, later on, they get married, and they make another movie together.
‘Watch the movie – when they’re really good is the movie before it was ever public that they’re getting together. But once they get married, you watch that movie, they’re not near as good together…
The 50-year-old added: ‘It’s the movie when they met that you go, “That’s the one [where] this thing is sizzling.”
‘I’ve always tried to keep it professional and the people I’ve worked with, I must say, did as well.
‘Maybe we had certain crushes on each other at certain times, but we always just kind of kept it professional. Or maybe we were dating somebody seriously outside of ourselves at the time and we both respected that for the other.’
The Failure to Launch star didn’t name any of his co-stars specifically but fans will remember he’s worked with the likes of Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lopez, Penelope Cruz and Sandra Bullock over the years.
It’s not surprising Matthew ended up getting married to someone outside the acting industry as he settled down with model and designer Camila Alves.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2012, share three children; sons Levi, 12, and Livingston, seven, and daughter Vida, 10.
