Paul Mescal celebrated turning 25 in his own unique way – by getting repeatedly punched by the members of Bondi Boxing Club.
The Normal People star is currently in Australia to film his upcoming movie Carmen in Sydney, where he has been for the past month.
His 25th birthday looks to be one he’ll certainly remember (or have the bruises to remind him, at least) as he spent it working out – and getting kind of beaten up – in a boxing gym.
Paul was seen wearing a chest protector as he put his arms on top of his head and allowed the other members of the club to take turns in landing their best blows on him, to give him an extreme version of the birthday bumps.
The actor was seen wincing as blow after blow landed on the protective equipment – the impact of which he could clearly still feel underneath it.
Thankfully he took it well and was seen smiling and laughing as he eventually tapped out and stopped the rounds of punches.
Paul appeared to have undertaken a workout at the boxing gym before his birthday surprise as he was seen covered in sweat in the video, which the club captioned: ‘Happy birthday @paul.mescal’.
He is currently in Australia to star as the male lead, Aidan, in Carmen after taking over the role from Jamie Dornan.
Paul will star alongside Melissa Barrera who will take the titular role of Carmen, in the adaptation of the famous opera, which will be directed by Benjamin Millepied.
It comes after Paul was one of the notable snubs for a Golden Globes nomination, while his Normal People co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones got a nod.
Despite not being up for a nomination himself, Paul congratulated Daisy, writing: ‘Could not be prouder of you my friend.’
