Saffron Barker has opened up on filming The Circle celebrity special which will air next year, admitting she found it ‘really hard’ to be isolated without face to face contact.
The YouTuber, 20, says she struggled without having anyone to talk to face to face, explaining: ‘It was such a weird show to film. I’ve never felt so lonely in my entire life.
‘It’s just that being able to do nothing. In this show when you’re filming it you couldn’t do anything.
‘And I had no one to talk to all day. If I wasn’t filming I would just be staring at a blank wall. I found it really hard.’
The Channel 4 show, which usually features non-celebs, sees contestants communicate over a social media platform either using their real identity or a fake profile.
While the normal version usually lasts three weeks, the celebrity version is just one week long – which Saffron found hard enough to cope with.
‘Genuinely, it was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I found myself sleeping all the time, too.
‘When I got out I didn’t care about my phone. I really thought I would miss it but all I missed was communication with people.
‘All I wanted to do was actually see someone and talk to someone. It was really lonely. I’ve never done a TV show apart from Strictly, where they don’t actually film you that much.
‘Whereas, this show I was being filmed 24/7 and I was aware of that, so that was also quite hard as well.’
As well as Saffron, the other stars announced for The Circle celebrity special are Denise van Outen, Duncan James, Charlotte Crosby, Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha and Kaye Adams, Sam Thompson, Pete Wicks, radio’s Rickie and Melvin, Baga Chipz and Lady Leshurr.
