In theatre news that seems to have been created for Twitter fan-fiction, Jonathan Bailey and Taron Egerton will play a gay couple in the upcoming play Cock.

Yep, it’s really called that.

Rocketman star Taron will make his West End debut in the revival of Mike Bartlett’s play, opposite Bridgerton star Jonathan, His Dark Materials star Jade Anouka and former EastEnders actor Phil Daniels.

In Cock, Bailey plays John, a man who is happy in himself and in his relationship with boyfriend M (Egerton), but his world is turned upside down when he meets the woman of his dreams (Anouka).

John and M’s relationship is called into question as John questions his sexuality, and whether we should limit ourselves with labels.

Needless to say, the news that the raunchily-titled four-hander would star the heartthrobs had tickets being snapped up like hotcakes when they went on sale this morning.

One tweet read: ‘Taron Egerton is going to be in a play called Cock and i would like to google for tickets but that’s a minefield isn’t it’, while another person said: ‘Who reached into my subconscious and made my dream a reality <3.’

GB News producer Daniel Sperling added: ‘The aisles are going to be like a slip and slide.’

Cock will be staged at the Ambassadors Theatre from March 5 to June 4 next year, directed by Marianne Elliot.

Elliot said: ‘I feel so excited to be working on this beautifully crafted and hilarious play by Mike Bartlett. It keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. A truly theatrical piece in that it asks the audience to enter the imagination of the storytelling – as only live theatre can do. It’s also all about the acting so to have such a talented, highly experienced, stellar cast is an absolute dream!’

Playwright Bartlett – also behind the BBC hit Doctor Foster added: ‘I love Marianne Elliott’s work and have done for a long time, so I’m thrilled to be able to collaborate with her on this revival. Especially with this incredible cast, which I know will bring both a fresh take and vast experience to a play about love, identity and the passionate human being.’

Cock debuted at the Royal Court back in 2009.

2022 looks to be a big year for Bailey, 33, as not only will he star in Cock, he will be the leading man in season two of Bridgerton.

The second season of the Netflix hit will focus on the love life of Viscount Anthony Bridgerton, as he attempts to find a wife after having his heart broken.

Meanwhile, Egerton, 31, is set to star in Apple TV+’s drama about the development of Tetris as the video game designer Henk Rogers, and the upcoming series In With The Devil alongside Ray Liotta and Greg Kinnear.
