M&S has been upping its game in the fashion department over recent months.
We’ve seen collections from the likes of Ghost and Finery London – and have watched closely as the retailer has slowly stocked more and more of our favourite brands.
But now there’s additional good news.
M&S plans to launch a same-day delivery service, so you can get pieces delivered to your door within hours.
The move will mean that the supermarket will beat other fashion rivals such as Next, & Other Stories and H&M – who currently only offer next-day services.
As it stands, ASOS offers customers in certain postcodes (who order by midday) the opportunity for items to be delivered by 10pm – but for a £7.95 charge.
Zara also has a same-day option – however it’s only available for London-based customers. Similarly, Matches Fashion provides a 90-minute service in the capital.
M&S chief executive Steve Rowe says the new service will mean that shoppers can get anything they need in a hurry – from school uniforms to cocktail dresses.
He told The Times that traditional retailers with ‘bricks and mortar’ stores could adapt to the online world – instead of blaming it for the decline of the high street.
Steve said: ‘People think of the store portfolio as being an albatross around our neck but I don’t think it is.
‘I think we are going to have a multichannel proposition so we can be where our customers want and they can choose how quickly they want it.’
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, the M&S team said: ‘The same day service is part of our trial programme this year.’
But added that the news ‘reflects a conversation about our future ambitions, rather than a formal announcement as it were.’
So there are no exact dates or timelines as of yet – and we’ll have to stay tuned to find out more.
In the meantime, if you want to give your wardrobe a little update, we’ve rounded up nine of the best summer fashion buys as well as capsule pieces that should be in your staycation suitcase.
