Calling all writers, Jemima Puddleduck fans, and anyone else who likes the idea of living in a cottage in the Lake District.

We bring you news of a very exciting property listing.

Castle Cottage, an 18th Century Grade II listed home in the Lake District, has landed on the rental market, with a guide price of £1,750 a month.

This is not just any cottage, mind you. This was the main home of Beatrix Potter – you know, the writer behind Peter Rabbit, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, Squirrel Nutkin, and many, many more iconic characters – after her marriage to William Heelis in 1913.

We’d imagine that means its infused with all sorts of creative vibes from the late Beatrix Potter – hence our suggestion that anyone who dreams of writing fiction should consider moving in.

But really, anyone will be keen on this place. It sits in a hidden corner of the quaint village of Near Sawrey, providing stunning views and easy access to the best parts of the Lake District.

The cottage itself is pretty snazzy, too, with five bedrooms (two of which have en-suite bathrooms), a cosy lounge, and a kitchen.

It’s set in extensive gardens, with secret pathways and nooks where you can sit and be inspired by nature.

There’s no guarantee of a visit from Flopsy, Mopsy, or Cottontail, and if you do want to bring along some animals of your own, be warned that you’ll need to seek the landlord’s permission.

The tenant will also need to bear in mind that the gardens need to sometimes be opened publicly, at agreed times with The National Trust, and they can’t damage or remove four of Beatrix’s personal possessions from the property (we’re not sure what four items these are, so that’s a bit mysterious).

If you’re keen to move to the Lake District and rent a place with a great history, you’ll need to fill in a pre-viewing questionnaire and go from there.

Best of luck – and we can’t wait to read all your imminent works about cute wildlife on the grounds.
