Fans of the blockbuster cartoon trilogy How To Train Your Dragon will rejoice today, as it has been confirmed that a live-action version of the franchise will be released in theatres.
That’s right, dragon dreams will come true on March 14, 2025, since writer and director Dean DeBlois has already written the script, according to Variety.
The first How To Train Your Dragon film, released in 2010, was a huge success, grossing $500 million (£415.3 million) at the box office.
The film was also nominated for Academy Awards for best animated feature and best score.
Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) is a misfit youngster who attends a dragon-fighting school and attempts to show that he is a genuine Viking (with a dragon, of course).
The revelation of the live-action comeback comes after director Dean said in 2017 that the upcoming film How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, which will be released in 2019, will signal the end of the three-movie trilogy based on Cressida Cowell’s books.

He said at the time: ‘We thought about it for a long time and came up with what we think is a bittersweet way to say goodbye to these characters, but the right way. You will understand why Hiccup says, as you heard in the trailer, “There were dragons when I was a boy.”‘And by the end of this film, you’ll have answered the question [of] what could have happened to them.’Fans had to wait three years for How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World as its release date was pushed back from the initial projection of 2016.
DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg stated in 2015 that the largest difficulty with scheduling timeframes was due to the production company’s reorganisation and that the initial goal was overly ambitious.
The first several animations were spoken by a slew of celebrities, including Gerard Butler from PS I Love You, America Ferrera from Ugly Betty, Kit Harington from Game of Thrones, and Jonah Hill from You People.
It’s unclear who will feature in this reboot or where the narrative will take the property, but we’re curious.
