Catherine O’Hara has gained a whole new legion of devoted fans since starring as the iconic Moira Rose in Schitt’s Creek.
And depending on the ages of said fans, it seems that some of them are only discovering the other classic roles on her heaving CV.
As we get into full swing of the festive season, some people are just realising that the same actress plays both Sunrise Bay’s very own Moira Rose and Kevin McCallister’s forgetful mother Kate – and the fact is blowing minds.
Teenagers on TikTok have just been discovering Catherine O’Hara’s range, after a clip of the actress recreating Kate’s infamous ‘Kevin!’ moment in Home Alone 2: Lost In New York began circulating.
One person tweeted: ‘I’ve just been informed that the mother from Home Alone is Moira & I am unwell bebe, while another wrote: ‘Hahahaha it took me forever to realize that Moira and the mom from Home Alone are the same person OVER MYSELF.’
Jo Whiley even got involved, tweeting: ‘That moment you watch Home Alone and realise that Kevin’s Mom is Moira from Schitt’s Creek.’
The penny dropping has become a bit of annual tradition, so much so that the official Schitt’s Creek Twitter account shared some of its favourite discoveries and added: ‘it’s that time of year again.’
Catherine, 66, played Kevin’s mum in both 1990’s Home Alone and its 1992 sequel, and the following year starred in another Christmas classic – Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, in which she voiced Sally.
Wait until people find out about that, eh?
The Canadian actress has had an illustrious career on both the big and small screen, with roles in Beetlejuice and Christopher Guest’s films Waiting For Guffman, A Mighty Wind, Best In Show and For Your Consideration ,and serving as a cast member on the sketch comedy show SCTV.
However, since 2015, she’s become best known for playing the eccentric wig-wearing actress Moira Rose on the hit comedy Schitt’s Creek.
The show – all about a rich family that loses it all and ends up living in a motel in a town they bought because of its funny name – swept the board at this year’s Emmys, taking home all the best actor and actress in a comedy series gongs, as well as outstanding comedy series and awards for writing and directing.
Her portrayal of Moira won Catherine her first Emmy for acting; she previously accepted the award for outstanding writing in a variety or music show with her SCTV castmates, including Schitt’s Creek on-screen husband Eugene Levy, in 1982.
