Bring Me The Horizon’s Oli Sykes open to matching tattoos with Ed Sheeran as bromance continues after Brit Awards

Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oli Sykes has revealed the band and Ed Sheeran could cement their bromance with matching tattoos and we are here for the idea.

The two unlikely collaborators shared the stage together at the Brit Awards 2022 earlier this month, with Bring Me The Horizon putting a rock spin on Ed’s chart-topping single Bad Habits creating quite the epic moment.

Since then, they’ve released the Bad Habits remix featuring BMTH as an official single and are now working on new music together.

Ed and Oli share more than just a passion for music as the pair are notably covered in tattoos – so surely the only way to cement their newfound friendship would be fresh ink?

Oli, 35, told Metro.co.uk: ‘I remember when we were backstage and Ed was getting changed out of his suit and I didn’t realise he had as many, he’s like fully covered. I don’t know if he told me and I read he gets his tattoos in different countries or for different memories so you never know when we start working together on music.’

He then joked: ‘The problem is I don’t drink anymore and the thing is you usually get them once you’ve had a few but I’ve got that many tattoos that I’m like, what’s one more?’

A Brit Awards statue would be most appropriate, we reckon.

Performing with BMTH certainly brought out an edgier side in Ed and took everyone by surprise.

Oli and his bandmate Jordan Fish had just come back from a beach in Brazil, where the former now lives, when they received an email from Ed’s manager asking if they’d join the pop star on-stage at the Brits.

‘Not in a million years would we have thought something like this would come along,’ Oli admitted.

Reflecting on the performance, he added: ‘We took it in our stride, banged out the music and the whole thing was a blur to be honest.

‘It was really cool to see what it’s like at that level. I don’t think we’d be opening up the Brits otherwise. We thrive off doing stuff that other people wouldn’t expect us to do.’

Fans have praised the joint performance for bringing representation to the rock/metal genre and while Oli acknowledges this, it’s not what he focuses on.

‘It is nice in a way but the thing with rock is no one’s really that bothered about if it’s cool or trendy, rock’s always been there and sometimes it’s been at the forefront of popular culture and sometimes it’s sat at the back,’ he said.

The two acts are now in the process of working on music together but Oli hinted it could be more than just a song.

‘Right now we’re just talking about what it could be,’ he said. ‘We’re just discussing ideas whether it’s an EP of new material or covers of each others’ songs. It’s all just hypothetical right now but we’d love to do something with him and he seems really excited to be doing something with us.

‘I think you can definitely expect to see some kind of project between us in the near future.’

It may come as a surprise to learn that BMTH and Ed didn’t have a raucous night of partying following the Brits – the band even snubbed their own after-party.

In fact, Oli lives a much more laidback lifestyle these days since he became sober and moved to Brazil with his wife Alissa Salls.

The rocker explained: ‘With lockdown, I found myself not very happy. I was so focused on the band and putting so much energy into the band, it was so 24-7 and I didn’t realise I was getting most of my gratification from the band.

‘So when all that stopped, I found I was really like, who am I? It really freaked me out because I wondered who am I going to be when the band stops, what do I enjoy doing?

‘Where I was in England, I needed to get away and have a disconnect from being me in the band. My wife is Brazilian so we go over there quite a lot to visit her family and they live in a very rural area out of Sao Paulo, and it’s just a slow relaxed way of life.

‘It just did me so much good to go out there.’
