The worst-kept Christmas secret is finally out: Ladbaby is in fact gunning for his fourth Christmas number one about the humble sausage roll.
This time, though, he’s bringing along some rather epic star power and joining forces with Ed Sheeran and Sir Elton John for the tune, Sausage Rolls For Everyone.
This collaboration may come as a surprise to some, with Ed and Sir Elton already in the race for the number one with their hit Merry Christmas, but we suppose this is come canny business moves as you may as well hitch your musical wagon to a proven number one force.
We challenge anyone else to come up against this chart-topping combination. Adele, who?
The track was announced today, with pre-orders available now ahead of its release on December 17, and is promised to be an upbeat and cheeky sausage roll take of Ed and Sir Elton’s festive track.
It’s not just a funky tune racing to the top spot, though, as 100% of profits from the song will go to food bank charity the Trussell Trust to support their campaign to end food hunger in the UK.
Speaking about the jingle, Ladbay – real name Mark Hoyle – and wife Roxanne said: ‘We always said we’d only go for a fourth number one if we could make it bigger and raise even more money for the Trussell Trust.
‘We approached Ed and Elton with an idea to do something that had never been done: to combine the music world with the social media world and join forces to make a difference to the people in the UK that need it most! Ed and Elton are pop royalty and they’ve both had huge success at Christmas, so we’re honoured and excited to be coming together to help families this Christmas and bring back some true Christmas spirit with the power of sausage rolls!
‘No-one should go to bed hungry but today, far too many do. Can you imagine being forced into impossible decisions like heating your home or feeding your children?
‘Help us make history! We HAVE to do whatever it takes to build a future where all of us can afford to go to sleep with a full stomach.’
Last Christmas Ed knew what was good for him and reached out to Ladbaby on Instagram offering support, with the plan hatched for this momentous Christmas number one attempt.
It comes after Ladbaby dropped an almighty hint he has something festively boppy up his sleeve when asked by Metro.co.uk whether he’d be attempting to top the trifecta of number one Christmas singles he already had under his Santa hat.
Last year they became the third act in UK chart history, after The Beatles and the Spice Girls, to score three straight Christmas number one singles with Don’t Stop Me Eatin’ (a pastry take on Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’, of course), which followed 2019’s I Love Sausage Rolls, and 2018 track We Built This City.
Grilled about his plans earlier this year, he told us: ‘You’ll have to wait and see! Never rule out a sausage roll at Christmas is what I would say.
‘Look, it’s amazing – there are so many megastars going for it this year, Ed Sheeran, Elton John, Mariah Carey of course, Abba, Adele has got a new album.
‘If we can find a way to raise more money for the Trussell Trust this year and if we can find a way to make it bigger and compete against such megastars, then you never know.’
Sausage Rolls For Everyone is released December 17.
