Brits are so desperate to get away that they’re searching for holidays ‘everywhere’

It’s been a long, dreary year.

After months being told to stay at home (and not just by Dua Lipa), it’s not surprising we’re all looking forward to finally getting to go on holiday.

And yes, we mean a proper trip away, not just a staycation.

But it turns out we’re so desperate for a getaway that we’re barely bothered about the destination.

Data from Skyscanner reveals that there’s been a 75% increase in searches for ‘everywhere’ this past month.

That makes ‘everywhere’ one of the most popular choices for people searching for travel this summer, ranking number four in the top 10 of the most searched summer destinations.

So, we’re flexible and open to, well, anything, as long as it’s a holiday abroad.

Some of do have more specific travel goals, mind you.

The top searched-for location is Dubai, followed by Alicante and Malaga. Sounds like we’re keen for some warm weather.

While in the UK we may be tired of city life, cities further afield are still on the travel menu, with Paris and New York also appearing in the top ten.

Top 10 most searched destinations for summer 2021:

  1. Dubai
  2. Alicante
  3. Malaga
  4. ‘Everywhere’
  5. Paris
  6. Faro
  7. New York
  8. Ibiza
  9. Dalaman
  10. Palma Majorca

Jon Thorne, Skyscanner’s consumer traveller expert said: ‘We know that UK holidaymakers are poised and ready to book that all important trip, following a year of ongoing travel restrictions.

‘Our new data reveals that travellers daydreaming of travelling abroad are willing to adjust their destination preferences and are literally searching for “everywhere” in order to be able to get away, when it’s possible.

‘The potential easing of restrictions by the summer combined with the vaccine roll-out has boosted positivity but these are just one piece of the puzzle with clear guidance relating to travel restrictions, quarantine measures, digital health passes and testing needed to enable travellers to know what is safe to book and within the guidelines.’

Here’s hoping Covid-19 cases keep dropping, lockdown measures continue to lift, and we’ll be able to pack our bags and head away soon.

For the more immediate future, have you given thought to a glamping trip?
