Alan Carr has spoken out in defence of his close friend Adele after she revealed her weight loss earlier this year.
The singer, who is mum to seven-year-old son Angelo, hit headlines in May after revealing her new look on her 32nd birthday, which she celebrated at home in lockdown.
When Alan was asked about the reaction to Adele’s transformation on Tuesday’s Lorraine, he said that people were ‘missing the point’ by concentrating on how she looks.
He told host Christine Lampard: ‘She’s always been gorgeous, those eyes and those lips.
‘With Adele, you sort of miss the point if you’re worrying about what size knickers she wears, because it’s that voice. It’s that inspirational, awesome voice.’
Alan joked that if the star’s vocals ‘got skinny’ as a result of her losing weight ‘I’d say, “Girl, go get a Greggs down you!”‘
‘It’s the voice for me,’ he added.
The Chatty Man host married husband Paul Drayton in Adele’s back garden in 2018. The Hello singer also organised the entire day and sang during the couple’s first dance.
Alan told The One Show previously: ‘We’ve known her for ages and when we told her we were getting married she said, “Can I please plan the whole day for you?”
‘So she organised everything. She’s the kindest, sweetest, most generous person ever.’
‘We go in there and there’s a grand piano with a man playing Ordinary People and then she sang our songs with the first dance. It was absolutely amazing. I can never repay her. She’s a one off. As we all know, she’s just the best.’
Fans of the Skyfall hit maker are eagerly awaiting her new album, which many suspect may be on the way after she announced she will be hosting Saturday Night Live this week.
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
