Aldi Christmas advert 2021: Marcus Rashford stars as radish and there’s a surprise return for Kevin the Carrot

Aldi has released their latest Christmas advert, which is a play on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol – with two very special guests.

With Marks & Spencer, John Lewis and Boots having already put out their festive TV offerings, other retailers are beginning to follow suit.

The latest is Aldi, with the retailer going for a very sweet, animated video, which features newly-appointed MBE Marcus Rashford as a radish, even sporting a tuxedo.

The heart-warming ad tells the story of Ebanana Scrooge, a miserable banana who is really not a fan of Christmas.

Luckily, everyone’s favourite mascot Kevin the Carrot is back on hand to remind the banana of the Christmas spirit and deliver festive joy to all.

Marcus lends his voice to a character called – wait for it – Marcus Radishford, who Kevin has a quick catch-up with near the end of the advert.

The pair then present some of Aldi’s best offerings this winter as Ebanana eventually has a change of heart and gets in on the Christmas spirit, apologising for his past ways.

He turns up on Kevin’s doorstep on Christmas Day itself, with a Christmas pudding in tow for the carrot and his family.

The advert ends with narrator Jim Broadbent saying: ‘The moral of the story? The answer you’ll find… for you to be happy, you need to be kind.’

Of course, it’s not too surprising Marcus has popped up in the advert as he’s currently working with Aldi to provide over 1.8million meals to children over Christmas.

The Manchester United star has been hot on the heels of the UK government over the past year as he tirelessly campaigned for free school meals for children in need during the holidays.

He previously expressed his ‘delight’ at being a part of Aldi’s ongoing campaign, saying: ‘As a family, we relied on the local food bank to get our Christmas dinner.

‘To this day, I remember queuing outside that building with mum; mum feeling embarrassed that she might be recognised.

‘It is with that in mind that I’m delighted to lend my support to the Aldi campaign.’
