The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star Alfonso Ribeiro has explained why he wasn’t on set when original Aunt Viv actress Janet Hubert was reunited with the cast after 27 years.
Janet made a surprise appearance during HBO Max’s reunion special in which fans saw her make amends with Will Smith after a bitter feud.
After Janet and Will spoke privately, the actress then surprised the rest of the cast by appearing on the show’s set during a group chat to celebrate the sitcom’s 30th anniversary.
However, fans were quick to notice that Alfonso (who played Carlton) was not among the cast during the special moment.
Some viewers immediately began to speculate if this was a sign that Alfonso might still be on bad terms with his former TV mom.
The actor was quick to clear up speculation as he told The Hollywood Reporter he had to miss the moment because he was filming America’s Funniest Home Videos.
He explained: ‘Unfortunately I had to go shoot that day. All of the social media content and the photographs were taken without me.
‘I literally did my own photo shoot on the couch so they could put me in the group photo. The actual special was filmed in one day, but all the other stuff was done on the other days.’
Janet was also sure to set the record straight on Twitter when one fan wrote: ‘Don’t think I didn’t notice that Alfonzo left the set once Janet came on. I guess all old wounds haven’t healed yet.’
She replied: ‘Don’t assume, he was working and I wasn’t there. Let it go sweetie, we have.’
The emotional Reunion special saw Will and Janet come face-to-face as they hashed things out for the first time since the actress left the show.
Will even took himself to wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk to reflect on how the long-running feud happened.
