Alison Hammond has been applauded for a powerful body positivity pep talk, as she reassured a This Morning caller.
One viewer, Sam, phoned in to get some advice about her low self-esteem. She said she sometimes finds herself lying to her children when they ask what she loves about herself because she can’t think of anything.
Heartbroken by the call, Alison offered some sweet advice and reassurance, urging Sam to see herself through her children’s eyes.
‘Sam, you’re a one-off, babes. There’s no one like you. No one in the world is like you Sam, you’re literally a one-off babes,’ she said.
‘Sam – you need to start loving yourself, loving all that juice about you. It doesn’t matter if you take up a bit extra room in the world, it really doesn’t matter babes. Take that room up and own it.’
She went on to say: ‘We need to see our bodies not as ornaments. They’re instruments,’ adding that Sam’s body has allowed her to have her children.
Fans loved Alison’s reassurance, with one writing on Twitter: ‘Alison Hammond is a national treasure , bless her.’
‘@AlisonHammond the way you just spoke to caller #Sam has brought me to tears,’ another said. ‘I’ve always been a fan of yours Alison, but you’ve just shown what an incredible person you really are.’
‘Oh Alison what u said to the caller who was upset about her body image was amazing-what a lovely person u are-so positive & encouraging,’ one more added. ‘I’m sure you’ve helped a lot of people today. Well done – we all need an Alison in our lives x’.
Alison is often applauded for her positivity on the show, and has been open about mental health.
On the show, when the conversation turned to Prince Harry’s documentary, which saw him open up about his struggle with alcohol and drugs, she had high praise for the royal.
‘We do need that change,’ she said. ‘I like the fact that he’s open, I really do.’
