Amanda Holden says Simon Cowell will definitely be back for next series of Britain’s Got Talent but not the Christmas special

Amanda Holden has given fans an update on the Britain’s Got Talent Christmas special and Simon Cowell returning for the next series.

The presenter and singer, 49, appeared on Loose Women on Monday and revealed that Simon is doing really well after his back injury and will be back filming for the show in January.

She explained: ‘He is, yes, Mr Cowell is coming back. I spoke to him on the phone probably about four weeks ago now and he sounds on top of the world.

‘He is back in an amazing space and apparently he looks fantastic as well and he is definitely back for the next series.

‘We’re filming in January so it’s pretty imminent. It feels like we’ve never left it this year, we’ve just been doing it non-stop, whereas it’s normally done and dusted by Easter. I can’t wait to see him.’

Simon had been left needing five hours of surgery and metal rods put in his back after falling off an electric bike at his home in Malibu, California earlier in the year.

His injuries meant he had to miss most of Britain’s Got Talent this year as he recovered, but he will be back for the next series.

Amanda also revealed that he would not be taking part in the first Christmas special of the show, but teased what viewers can expect.

She revealed: ‘It’s honestly so much fun. David [Walliams] is a complete buffoon throughout it, Ashley [Banjo] has obviously done an amazing performance with Diversity.

‘Me and Alesha [Dixon] have teamed up with different acts and performed and it just feels so family and so much fun.

‘I think after this funny old year it has put Britain’s Got Talent back on the right footing because when we filmed the show this year, everybody was brilliant and they did their best but it did feel odd.

‘And I think now this will feel kind of how it should feel and back to normal and ready for next year.’

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
