Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly dragged into PMQs after blistering Boris Johnson swipe on ‘fictional’ Downing Street party

Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly were the unlikely name-drops in Prime Minister’s Questions this week after the duo roasted Boris Johnson on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

Was that on your bingo card this week?

Last night Ant and Dec took a swipe at Downing Street just hours after footage was released of Mr Johnson’s former press secretary Allegra Stratton answering questions at a mock press conference on December 22, 2020, about an alleged bash the previous Friday.

Taking a jab at the footage, Dec went on to level a direct shout out to the leader (well, ‘for now’, according to Dec).

Seems the presenting duo was fresh on the mind when MPs took to the chamber today, as Sir Keir Starmer went in on the PM, who claimed the ‘first he knew about [the party] was last night’.

He fumed: ‘We’ve all watched the video of the Prime Minister’s staff…they knew there was a party, they knew it was against the rules, they knew they couldn’t admit it, they thought it was funny.

‘It’s obvious was happening.

Ant and Dec are ahead of the Prime Minister on this.

‘The Prime Minister has been caught red-handed…’

The duo are clearly keeping up with today’s mention, as they tweeted amid PMQs: ‘Morning. Just getting up after a late night.

‘Anything interesting happening this morning’

Downing Street has repeatedly insisted there was no bash and coronavirus rules had been followed at all times following reports one took place there on December 18.

But footage obtained by ITV News shows Ms Stratton answering questions at a mock press conference on December 22 about a party the previous Friday – the date of the alleged rule-breaking gathering.

At the rehearsal with Ms Stratton, Ed Oldfield, a special adviser to Mr Johnson, asked her: ‘I’ve just seen reports on Twitter that there was a Downing Street Christmas party on Friday night, do you recognise those reports?’

Ms Stratton replied ‘I went home’ before a discussion with colleagues about whether the event was a ‘cheese and wine’ evening.

She added: ‘This fictional party was a business meeting … and it was not socially distanced.’

At PMQs, Mr Johnson said he has asked a Cabinet Secretary to investigate what happened.

But he once again denied there was a party and said no Covid rules were broken.

‘I have been repeatedly assured that there was no party and that no covid rules were broken,’ he said today.

‘I have asked the Cabinet Secretary to establish all the facts and to report back as soon as possible – and it goes without saying that if those rules were broken then there will be disciplinary action for all those involved.’

Still, that didn’t stop Ant and Dec was kicking in the boot on ITV last night.

‘It is all change in camp now because yesterday the celebs chose a new leader by the gift of a secret vote,’ Dec said.

Ant continued: ‘It means David’s reign is over, but they weren’t celebrating. They didn’t have a party.

‘They categorically deny any suggestions that they had a party and this fictional party definitely didn’t involve cheese and wine or a secret Santa.’

Dec then added: ‘Evening, Prime Minister… for now.’
