Anton Du Beke has joked about getting his first tattoo in honour of Strictly Come Dancing, amid speculation about whether he’ll be returning this year as a judge.

The 55-year-old has been a professional dancer in the ballroom since the show first aired in 2004, although he’s never managed to get his hands on the Glitterball Trophy.

Last year, Anton joined the judging panel alongside Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas, having taken Bruno Tonioli’s place as a result of travel restrictions.

While it’s uncertain whether he’ll return as a judge or a pro this year, the dancer has joked that he would consider getting a tribute to Strictly inked on him to join in with some of the other professionals.

Reigning champion Giovanni Pernice, who won last year with Rose Ayling-Ellis, as well as other professional male dancers Gorka Marquez, Neil Jones and Graziano Di Prima are all tattooed.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, Anton joked: ‘It seems as if everybody is tattooed these days.

‘If you’re going to come on Strictly Come Dancing, you have got to have a tattoo.’

He added: ‘I am actually going to get a tattoo next year for Strictly.

‘If I end up having to dance with somebody again I am going to tattoo my routine on my chest.’

The star joked that he hoped his future partners aren’t ‘short-sighted’, and that although he may be open to some ink, he’s still on the fence about any piercings.

Fans are still waiting to see whether Anton will return as a judge, after the pro dancer line-up was confirmed recently.

While fans are yet to hear whether Bruno will finally be back following his time away, Craig recently claimed that Anton could appear as a judge yet again, before both he and Shirley put forward the idea of there being five judges on the panel.

Anton made his first appearance as a temporary judge in 2020, when Motsi was forced to return home to Germany during the pandemic.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One later this year.
