BBC has paid tribute to Rose Ayling-Ellis after her incredibly Strictly Come Dancing victory.
The broadcaster has celebrated her big win with a powerful post referencing the EastEnders star – who is the show’s first Deaf contestant – and her pro partner Giovanni Pernice’s powerful 10 seconds of silence from earlier in the series.
The duo’s routine to Symphony by Clean Bandit was paused midway through, with Rose and Giovanni instead dancing in silence, and the moment was highly praised by viewers and the judges alike.
On Monday morning, the BBC shared a photo from the performance and wrote: ‘One moment of silence can help a community feel heard. This is our BBC’.
Fans have responded to the broadcaster’s post and praised the sentiment.
‘Brilliant! This is a powerful quote,’ wrote one Twitter user.
Another added: ‘Wow this is beautiful’.
And a different fan wrote: ‘Bravo @BBC’.
On the night of the emotional routine, judge Motsi Mabuse said: ‘Sometimes it’s more than scores and marks and dances, sometimes it’s just a moment, and we just had that. Thank you so much.’
And since that moment, Rose has opened up about the impact of the dance, and how it ‘changed her life’.
On Saturday, Rose and Giovanni triumphed over John Whaite and Johannes Radebe in the grand final, and the actress has since thanked her partner for his support.
Taking to Instagram, Rose wrote: ‘I’m dedicating this post to the most wonderful human ever, Giovanni. The person who was there everyday with me for four months, who knows truly what this journey has been for me, the reason why I have become confident within myself.’
She added: ‘He came into my world and brought the best out of me. I cannot thank him enough for all the work and effort to make me become the dancer that I am today. Winning the Glitterball is the best gift I could ever give to Giovanni because he really deserves it.’
Giovanni replied to her in the comments on Instagram, writing: ‘And here I (cry emoji) again !!! I told you so many times!!’
‘You are a dream and defo best friend for life !! You are a hero and a role model to everyone. And I can’t wait to dance again with you ASAP!!’
