Beat The Chasers viewers left stressed as contestant misses out on £100,000 by one second

Viewers of Beat the Chasers were left stressed after watching contestant Luigi miss out on taking home £100,000 after a nail-biting face-off with all five Chasers.

The spin-off of The Chase sees contestants choosing how many Chasers they wish to take on in the final based on the time limit and prize money the Chasers offer.

Brave Luigi decided to take on the full squad of five Chasers – Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan, Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty, ‘Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace, Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett and Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha – to take home a huge £100,000 prize.

Despite only getting £2,000 in the cash builder round, Luigi was offered a huge £100,000 to take on all of the Chasers, with the professionals given 49 seconds against him.

Luigi impressed viewers with his quizzing ability, and it looked like he was about to leave with the fortune – but The Sinnerman swooped in and managed to answer the last question with one second to spare.

Had Paul taken just a fraction longer, Luigi would have been home and dry but as he had just three seconds remaining on his own clock, host Bradley Walsh couldn’t finish the question before his time ran out.

Viewers were devastated that the great – and brave – player missed out by such a tiny amount, tweeting: ‘Luigi, what a player! That was the best of the week so far!’

Others added: ‘Beat The Chasers is a stressful watch – Luigi was soooo close’ and ‘Unbelievable effort from Luigi on #BeatTheChasers so close’.

Viewers were also annoyed that another contestant, who was much less skilled at quizzing than Luigi, manged to win £10,000 on the show.

They raged: ‘God the world is so cruel that someone as silly as that could walk away with £10K while poor Luigi misses out by a second. They were quite mean to her tho so I guess karma hit them quickly’.

Others added: ‘How did Jane manage to win answering questions really hesitantly but yet exceptional contestants like Rahim and Luigi walk away with nothing? Wow’ and ‘Poor Luigi gets nothing and Jane gets 10 grand. The world is cruel’.

Beat The Chasers airs weeknights from 9pm on ITV.
