The worlds of Death in Paradise and Beyond Paradise will meet in the spin-off’s epic crossover conclusion, with Kris Marshall’s character returning to his old home.
The BBC has disclosed that in the final episode, DI Humphrey Goodman (Marshall) will pay a surprise journey to the sun-kissed island of Saint Marie.
Fans were given to an early glimpse of Goodman strolling across the tropical location’s white powdery beach towards a hut at the conclusion of Beyond Paradise’s final episode on Friday.
Spotting a vivid green lizard crawling over the woodwork, Goodman, looking visibly moved, said: ‘Hello, old friend.’
Fans were shocked by the teaser clip, with one writing: ‘WHATTTTT HUH?’
Another viewer, who didn’t seem to predict the crossover, penned: ‘SORRY?|
‘It was special! Love the little crossover… a bit of that now and again for both shows would be a good thing,’ a third remarked.
‘I was honoured and thrilled to return to Guadeloupe as part of Humphrey’s voyage in Beyond Paradise, and to rekindle my profound love for the island,’ Kris said upon his return.
‘The Shipton Abbott police squad are confronted with an apparently impossible case to solve,’ states the synopsis for the concluding show from the Line of Duty broadcaster.
‘A burglary seems clear-cut at first when the thief’s unusual calling card matches that of local criminal Atticus Styles (Spencer Jones), but when the forensic evidence comes back, it all points to another suspect.
‘The only problem is the suspect, Hayley Collins (Hannah Traylen), was locked up in a police cell by PC Kelby Hartford (Dylan Llewellyn) at the time of the crime.
‘Meanwhile, still reeling from recent events, DI Humphrey Goodman’s mind is elsewhere as he considers his future in Shipton Abbott.’
Death in Paradise, a crime comedy-drama that premiered on the BBC in 2011, starred Kris, as well as Ben Miller, Ardal O’Hanlon, and Ralf Little from Love Actually.
Its spin-off, starring the My Family actor, debuted in February and follows Goodman, who relocated to the French Caribbean to be with his fiancée Martha Lloyd. (Sally Bretton).
The creators of Beyond Paradise earlier explained to Metro.co.uk why they chose to focus on Goodman and Martha’s tale over other characters.
‘When we were thinking about who to bring back, it was always Humphrey and Martha who we kept coming back to and wondered what became of them’, Executive Producer Tim Key explained.
‘Part of that is because Kris and Sally have such incredible chemistry that you just love watching them together. I think that is what drove this, wondering what became of the two characters and where they were at.
‘Kris only ever left Death in Paradise just because he had done five years being away from home, and it was time to move on to other things’, he added.
The Beyond Paradise series finale will air on BBC One and iPlayer on Friday 7 April from 8pm.
