Bruce Willis has brought back his iconic Die Hard character John McClane – but not for a sequel sadly.

The actor will be returning to action movies once more in upcoming project Reactor, but until then he’s going back to an old friend.

Bruce turns action hero once more in an advert for Advance Auto Parts, who are selling DieHard car batteries. Geddit?

‘When you wanted the quiet life John, dead batteries, empty streets,’ he grumbles while sat inside his car.

He is faced with a blast from the past when Die Hard villain Theo, played by Clarence Gilyard, spots him from inside a diner and makes a threatening gun gesture at him.

Fed up, he gets out and walks through a rundown neighbourhood before running into trouble with some bad guys, who send him flying through the window of an Advance Auto Parts shop.

John nabs a battery and asks the member of staff if he can get out without using the front door, so she directs him to an air shaft (remember that scene?).

He squeezes his way through, cradling his new battery, and runs into yet another familiar face when he gets hit by a limo outside driven by Argyle (De’voreaux White), who was the hero’s limo driver in the first film.

As they move off, Argyle complains about John getting blood on the seats of his vehicle while they’re being shot at.

Things get crazier as they are rammed by a truck, with John thinking on his feet and using a DieHard battery to restart their vehicle.

The advert has an explosive ending – of course (Picture: Advance Auto Parts)

The pair end up being chased by a digger which, thanks to a hand grenade the hero has lobbed inside, later blows up while they speed away.

Of course they finish with John’s catchphrase ‘Yippee ki yay’, only it’s said by Argyle who gets a telling off from Bruce’s character for ‘stealing’ his line.

The two-minute advert aired during the NFL game between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers.

Bruce first played the role in Die Hard in 1988, and again in the sequels from 1990 to 2013.
