Dancing On Ice 2022: Bez smashes head on ice in nasty fall as helmet goes flying in training

Dancing On Ice star Bez experienced a brutal fall during training, with footage capturing him hitting his head so hard on the ice that his helmet went flying off.

The Happy Mondays musician and dancer is competing in the 2022 ITV series with Angela Egan, who won last year’s competition with Sonny Jay.

With only days to go until the launch show, fans can’t wait to see who will impress on the ice, with other contenders including Love Island star Liberty Poole, former Strictly Come Dancing pro Brendan Cole and S Club 7 singer Rachel Stevens.

During a recent training session, Bez was filmed skating in front of Angela wearing protective shin pads, elbow pads and a helmet as he lost his balance, toppling backwards as he tried to stay on his feet.

As he fell to the ground on his back, his head hit the ice in what looked like a painful fall, with his blue helmet bouncing off his head and rolling away.

Angela immediately came to his aid, crouching down as she said: ‘It’s a good job for your helmet, isn’t it?’

Bez, 57, told his partner that he was doing ok, lying down on the ground for a moment following the tumble.

As he started to slowly attempt to get back up, Angela, 35, urged him to take his time, telling him: Give yourself a minute.’

Rather than get back on his feet right away, Bez crouched down with his head resting on his hands as the skating pro extended a helping hand.

During a recent edition of This Morning, Phillip Schofield referred to the accident, saying that it happened on Bez’s second day on the ice.

In October, when it was announced that he would be taking part in the show, he admitted that he was like ‘Bambi on ice’ when training began.

Speaking on This Morning to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, he said: ‘At the moment, it’s more like Bambi on ice, not Dancing On Ice. How I got picked, I don’t know because I was absolutely awful at the audition – but they must have seen something there, some potential.’

He added that he thought that he might have been picked because of his complete lack of skating skills, which meant that he didn’t have ‘any bad habits’.

‘Last year at Christmas, I ended up borrowing my son’s penguin to get around the ice,’ he added.

Dancing On Ice begins on Sunday January 16 at 6.30pm on ITV.
