Emotions ran high on Monday night’s episode of Dancing With the Stars, with Tyra Banks bidding farewell to the departing Jeannie Mai.

The presenter broke down in tears during the show while saying goodbye to How Do I Look? star Jeannie, after she was forced to leave the competition due to a medical emergency.

Jeannie is currently being treated for the rare condition epiglottis. Medical workers discovered an abscess in her throat, as well as an infection which had spread to her tonsils. Had she not been treated in time, her throat could have closed up, making breathing impossible.

Tyra paid tribute to Jeannie after she was forced to withdraw from Dancing With The Stars on Monday, breaking into tears as she wished her a swift recovery.

‘Jeannie, we’re glad everything went well and that you’re on your way to a speedy recovery,’ she said, her voice breaking.

‘As you see, I’m emotional. We’re all emotional in here.’

Tyra went on to praise the star’s ‘love and passion’ for Dancing With the Stars and said ‘just know you are still a part of this family until the final episode of this season.’

Jeannie also spoke from her hospital bed on the show, saying: ‘I am absolutely devastated that my journey on Dancing With The Stars has to end this way.’

Jeannie also posted a message on her Instagram page, thanking medical staff and her professional dancing partner Brandon Armstrong.

A number of the show’s cast have suffered medical emergencies this year, after dancer Cheryl Burke hit her head, Kaitlyn Bristowe injured her ankle and Anne Heche injured her knee while rehearsing for the competition.

Dancing With The Stars airs on ABC in the US.
