Anna Maxwell Martin’s odds have been slashed (Picture: PA)
The odds on Line of Duty star Anna Maxwell Martin (Patricia Carmichael) being cast as the 14th Doctor in Doctor Who have been slashed, as she joins other stars of the BBC drama in the running.
Vicky McClure (Kate Fleming) and Kelly Macdonald (Joanne Davidson) have also been tipped for the role when Jodie Whittaker steps down as the 13th Doctor.
Anna plays the no-nonsense Detective Chief Superintendent tasked with taking over the command of AC-12, previously run by Adrian Dunbar’s Ted Hastings.
However, fans might be about to see a completely different side of her, if Betfair’s odds are anything to go by.
While I May Destroy You star Michaela Coel is still the favourite to take on the role of the Doctor at 4/1, Kelly is now tied as second-favourite with It’s A Sin’s Olly Alexander, at 6/1.
Vicky follows closely behind at 7/1, with Maxine Peake, Natalie Dormer, Richard Ayoade, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge coming next.

Anna is the joint fifth favourite, at 10/1.
Could one of them be about to switch their police car for a police box?
Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: ‘Line of Duty fans will be excited to see Anna Maxwell Martin join her fellow Line of Duty stars Kelly Macdonald and Vicky McClure among the favourites to be the next Time Lord.

‘She has seen her odds slashed to 10/1, with MacDonald and McClure among the front runners at 6/1 and 7/1 respectively.
‘While she plays the villainous Patricia Carmichael running AC-12, she has shown a warmer side in the likes of hit comedy Motherland, with punters convinced the breakout actress would make a fantastic successor to Jode Whittaker. But the favourite is still I May Destroy You star Michaela Coel at 4/1.’
Who will be the 14th Doctor?
Latest odds from Betfair:
Michaela Coel: 4/1
Olly Alexander: 6/1
Kelly MacDonald: 6/1
Vicky McClure: 7/1
Maxine Peake: 8/1
Natalie Dormer: 8/1
Richard Ayoade: 8/1
Phoebe Waller-Bridge: 8/1
Anna Maxwell Martin: 10/1
Kris Marshall: 10/1
Tom Rosenthal: 10/1
Michael Sheen: 12/1
David Harewood: 14/1
While nothing has been confirmed, it was reported that Jodie is expected to step down at the end of the next series, which will be her third in the role.
No Doctor Who actor has spent more than three series in the role since it returned to screens in 2005.
The sci-fi favourite tends to have lesser known actors for its leading role, although its most recent castings, Jodie and Peter Capaldi, were previously pretty well known for their roles in the likes of Broadchurch and The Thick Of It.
Series 13 of Doctor Who is expected to air this year, with Jodie returning alongside Mandip Gill, who plays Yaz.
Following the departure of Bradley Walsh (Graham) and Tosin Cole (Ryan), Liverpudlian comic John Bishop is entering the fray, as new character Dan.
Doctor Who will return to BBC One later this year.
