Eamonn Holmes reveals Liam Neeson’s advice on dealing with chronic pain: ‘Motion is your lotion’

Eamonn Holmes has revealed his secret to managing his chronic pain comes with a little help from Liam Neeson, who encouraged the presenter to keep moving.

The This Morning host, 61, has been dealing with chronic pain of his own, and discussed the importance of keeping mobile to help alleviate the symptoms.

Discussing why people find chronic pain worsens in summer, due to dehydration and a lack of movement, Eamonn revealed that actor Liam, 69, gave him some great advice that ‘rest is rust and motion is lotion’.

He told wife Ruth Langsford on the show: ‘I live by that motto, I do – don’t I always say that? Motion is your lotion.

‘I sat beside the actor Liam Neeson on a plane and he said to me: “Eamonn, remember this, motion is your lotion.”

‘That’s what he said, he said to me that is why he keeps doing his action films. And Liam and I are like-minded on this sort of thing, that exercise is it all.’

Eamonn previously told about his health battle, explaining: ‘It’s quite depressing because every day you get up and hope you’ve done better and you have treatment and it still hurts like hell!

‘People say, “How did it happen?” but I have no idea why in such a short space of time you go from being healthy to being told your nerves are dead in your leg because of your back and it might take a year before there’s improvement, and you’ve no choice but to do the exercises otherwise you’ll be sitting in a wheelchair.’

He admitted: ‘I took my health for granted — it’s what you do. Millions of people are suffering far worse pain than me. I started tweeting about chronic pain and the response was huge.’

Eamonn added: ‘For me, I’m in a race against time to strengthen my back before my steroid injections — which do ease the pain — run out.’

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
