Eamonn Holmes told off a teacher for teaching her pupils the ‘wrong’ lyrics to Jingle Bells on today’s episode of This Morning.
The presenter and his wife Ruth Langsford, who have been replaced on the show by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary on Fridays, were joined by a primary school teacher from Wormholt Park Primary School in West London and a group of children.
The guests had been invited onto the programme to sing and sign a rendition of Jingle Bells, but before they got underway, Eamonn demanded to know what lyrics they’d gone for.
The teacher revealed they’d be singing: ‘Oh what fun it is to ride on a one-horse open sleigh/ Oh jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way.’
However, Eamonn said the right lyrics were: ‘Oh what fun it is to ride on a one-horse open sleigh/ Hey jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way.’
‘Well, that’s wrong, teacher,’ Eamonn told her, before continuing: ‘She’s been teaching these children wrong.’
‘No she hasn’t,’ Ruth insisted, but Eamonn refused to back down.
‘She has,’ he said. ‘I’m just telling you, it’s wrong.’
Viewers were left wincing at the scenes, with many branding the whole shebang ‘awkward’.
‘Let it go Eamonn, does it really matter? How awkward,’ wrote one on Twitter.
Echoing a similar sentiment, another penned: ‘To be fair Eamonn’s right about the lyrics … But that was awkward.’
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
