First Dates star Fred Sirieix shares Valentine’s tips for finding love in lockdown

As all singletons will know, dating in lockdown is not easy. Luckily Fred Sirieix is sharing his First Dates know-how to help us find our true love – all from a two metre distance.

Now we’re all meeting over Zoom or going on awkward socially distanced walks in the park, it’s certainly not as simple as the days when we could get to know someone over a cheeky cocktail or two.

Lucky Fred is here to help.

Be honest to yourself

If you’ve personal issues that need fixing, meeting someone isn’t going to resolve them. It’s not going to be the road to happiness, because you need to clear your own head first.

So be honest with yourself about why you want to be with someone, what you want from the relationship and why. Once you’ve cleared your own head, you’re in a much better place for any new romance.

Zoom — and be yourself

We’ve a lot to thank Zoom meetings for. They’ve allowed us all to become more confident when we talk to someone else from behind a screen. So use those skills for your date, too.

Be yourself — because that’s the best way to come across. Don’t hold back in showing who you are, or talking about your experiences.

Your date has to judge you too. The best way to be natural is to just act… yourself.

Narrow down your options

The next step for any successful Zoom date is to meet that person in the flesh, to see the way they look, they react, they smell – all from a socially distanced walk.

So if you live in London, there’s no point right now in fixing up a date with somebody in York – or even New York. Pick somebody close, and know it’ll make a meeting so much easier to arrange.

Arrange that socially distanced walk

Here’s where the friendship or romance really starts. So pluck up the courage to ask your online date to meet up.

Don’t worry about looking too forward. Times are different now, and it’s only in person – albeit at a social distance – you’ll finally be able to tell if this could possibly be the right person for you.
